About Me

I love getting lost in the tangled lines of my family history and the joy of searching for and finding the answers to who my ancestors were. I also want to share what I’ve found and learned along the way. Genealogy can and should be fun (frustrating maybe) for everyone.

I come from a long line of hobby genealogists on my maternal line. When I was in high school (back in the dark ages) I would carry large books for my grandmother and help her read over faded documents. Of course as a moody teen I just rolled my eyes at everything she was doing.

Fast forward a few years and she gave all of her research boxes to me. I figured I’d just sort a few things out, enter the data into genealogy software and print it out for her —– Not what happened.

I began sorting through all the documents and photos and was soon hooked on piecing it all together. And mostly filling in gaps I found (I never told my grandmother I found gaps in her research). I also began the journey of researching my paternal side, and let me tell you, they were/are still a tangled mess.

This blog is a way for me to A) share my family history with others researching the same lines B) share wonderful old photos I have inherited (no point in keeping them all hidden away in my office) C) share a few tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way in the simplest terms possible.

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional genealogists, though I have been paid to put together a few small trees for friends.

While I live in Colorado I am from Alabama and all of my ancestry is from early southern state settlers and early colonial settlers.

The house on the home page is the house my grandfather was born in. The house is located in Pineapple, Wilcox County, Alabama. It was built in 1882 by Dr. David Adams as a wedding gift to his daughter, Maggie Herbert Adams (1859-1884) and her new husband James Buchanan Lloyd (1857-1951. Maggie died soon after the death of their son and James Lloyd married Sallie Barnett Adams (sister to Maggie) in 1892. Their son James A Lloyd was born in this house, and all of his sons were born there as well.
