Here is a newly typed copy of the will of Henry H Lowe. Henry lived in Jones County Georgia and then lived in and operated a large plantation in Harris County Georgia.
Henry H Lowe is the father of Henry Littleton Lowe . Henry H lists Henry L as his “unlawful son” in his will, so I can be happy that he acknowledged his son and therefore cleared up any doubt of who Henry L’s father was.
I have an old photo copy of the will along with the typed transcription my grandmother compiled. You can also find a copy of this will on Ancestry.com.
I’m also including an index of slave names found in the will and who they were bequeathed to (I swear I hate that I have to type/say that) in hopes of helping anyone looking to trace ancestors who were slaves.
Henry H Lowe b 1795 (possibly Jones County GA) died 8 July 1854, Waverly Hall, Harris County Georgia was married to Mariah Tarver (a cousin) he and Mariah never had children. The only known child of Henry H Lowe was Henry L Lowe.

Does your ancestor have roots in Cumberland Virginia and Rockingham NC? Your ancestor sounds a lot like mine. His name was William Lowe. The Lowe’s seemed to have no problem acknowledging their enslaved offspring and in fact, gifted them property. Please let me know.
Hi Joyce, sorry just seeing this was up for approval.
I do not know where my Lowes were before showing up in Jones county Georgia. They could have been in VA. They are my next area of research, I’ve been sorting through some DNA matches to see if I can narrow down which Henry Lowe (Henry being the only name they could ever use) line I connect to. I have several leads just want to make sure I’m on the right track.
Hi Jeri – I randomly found your blog because I started using Obsidian for genealogy and then saw this post. I, too, have ancestors that I don’t like, and for the same reason! I just thought it was nice to find a kindred spirit (who also has ancestry in GA!) and thought I’d say hi!
Hi Jennifer
Thanks for understanding the plight 🙂
I found your blog, and looking through it, love your YT links.
