I’ve hit the Genealogy Goldmine – Again!

The family history fairies have struck again, ok, my family of pack rats but I can call them fairies.

Boxes of photos, documents, etc from the home of Jan Lloyd. All boxes were in the home of Mary Bolt Lloyd
Genealogy Goodies

Many years ago I posted about all the genealogy documents I received from my grandmother, Mary Bolt Lloyd. Well, I only had a fraction of the items she had amassed over the years. The remainder of her items has been in Florida at my aunt’s house.

I usually fly down to Alabama so I haven’t been able to get to Florida and get the boxes from my aunt. Until 2 weeks ago.

I drove to Alabama to attend the funeral for my grandfather, Johnny J Jones (post coming soon about him), and since I had my car I went to see my aunt in Florida and Wow! I’ve hit the Genealogy Goldmine again.

Boxes of old photos, documents, deeds from the 1800s, letters my grandparents wrote to each other during WWII. A wonderful, beautiful sketch book that belonged to Sallie B Adams Lloyd, my Great Great Grandmother dated 1909! Yes, a book of her sketches. We have a few paintings of her work so I’ll do a longer post on her soon.

Deeds! Deeds! and receipts. I’ve pulled the papers from this tin and put them back in after a quick glance. I’ll have to fire up the flatbed scanner for these but I’m so excited to read them. The 1st one pertains to one of the properties in Pine Apple Alabama. Also, interesting tin cylinder, not sure how old it is but these papers seem to have been in it for quite a while.

I also have a large photo album from my grandmother Mary Bolt Lloyd of her and her high school and college friends. I’ve looked through it and smiled at how meticulous she was at writing names on the backs of the pictures- You know you come from a line of genealogists when…

Another box is filled with every piece of paper issued to my grandfather James Lloyd during WWII, I can’t wait to scan these documents and trace his steps during the war.

Lots of photos of my great grandmother Katie Compton Lloyd Cobb when she was younger, I’ve never seen pictures of her when she wasn’t already past the age of 70 so this has been super exciting. Plus pictures of her with her mother, Minnie Newman Compton, my Great Great Grandmother.

So, I have lots of scanning, cataloging, and filing to do. Can’t wait to see what all I find in this goldmine.
