The search for Bethina Littleton Condon

As I stated in my last post I am searching for more information on my 4th great grandmother, Bethina Littleton Condon. It is a plus that I have her name but I have little to no information about her. Well, that is changing.

To get started I decided to see if I had good DNA matches to Bethina and Henry H Lowe. I have about 25 to this couple, but do I have more? I know Bethina married Caleb Condon and had 1 son (that I knew of), Josh Condon. Did Josh have siblings? I didn’t know. So, Josh, became the focus of my research and I formed the following research questions:

Did Josh Condon, half brother to Henry L Lowe, have siblings?

      Who were these siblings?

Can I prove they were children of Bethina and Caleb?

And I’ve been busy, which is great!
I have discovered that Josh did have siblings, possibly 11! I’ve found 8 and mention of there being 12 children in letters from a daughter of Josh Condon written to my grandmother.

Which leads me to today.

      1. I’m researching each of these people I’ve found.   And so far the research is bearing fruit. One of his sisters lived in Atlanta with her husband and her parents Bethina and Caleb were in their home!

      2. This sister, Rebecca Condon Houston, has an obit that lists Josh Condon as a surviving sibling and another sister Mary Arnold.

     3. I have many letters written to John H Lowe, son of Henry L Lowe and nephew to Josh Condon, and I am sorting through these letters to see if any more siblings or family members are mentioned.

     4. I have requested a document from the archives at Auburn University in Alabama, this letter could hold very important information on Bethina and Henry H Lowe – fingers crossed a copy can be sent to me.

     5. Contact has been made with several cemeteries in the Atlanta area looking for a possible burial place of Bethina and Caleb, I have some info on Calebs burial but the cemetery doesn’t have him listed and doesn’t know how he made it onto a transcribed list of burials.

6. Looking to have someone in Pike County Georgia do a look up at the courthouse for any documents that can shed light as to why 8 Condon children were living in the home of a lawyer in 1850???? Big mystery that needs an answer.

The research will continue and I’m putting together more posts to outline the steps and discoveries.
